Minutes of Thaddeus Stevens Society, Nov. 5, 2005
The Thaddeus Steven’s Society met Saturday, November 5, 2005 at Ruth Craley’s home in
Gettysburg. Attendees were: Ross Hetrick, president, William Allison, Marianne Craver, Ruth Craley,
Brian Fay, Randy Harris, George Muschamp, Sam Mudd, Carolyn Quadarella, secretary.
The meeting began with unanimous approval of the minutes of the September 17, 2005 meeting.
The next order of business was the financial report presented by Ross Hetrick. The Society presently
has a balance of $3,275.68 in the treasury.
The members present approved a motion that the Thaddeus Steven Society would work with Randy
Harris and any other legitimate group to coordinate locating Underground Railroad sites in Adams County.
The members also approved purchasing 30 copies of the new Stevens biography: Thaddeus Stevens in
Gettysburg: The Making of an Abolitionist by Brad Hoch. Brad will sign these copies on December 3,
2005 at the Adams County Historical Society’s open house that day.
Also approval was given to replenish the stock for general re-sale Hans Trefousse’s Collected
Works of Thaddeus Stevens.
The Society will buy a full-page ad for $250 (with membership blank) in the program of the new
Stevens play at the Thaddeus Steven College of Technology. This play will be performed at the Fulton
Theater, January 6, 2006. There will be a reception before the play in the lobby of the Fulton Theater.
Ross also mentioned that the sign for Stevens’ Run by Gettysburg College was stolen a week after it
was put up in September 2004.
Friday, February 2, 2006, Brad Hock will be at the Society’s dinner meeting at the Fairfield,
Fairfield, PA. The meeting will begin at 7 pm with Brad signing his book between 7 and 7:30 pm. There
would then be a presentation on Stevens confiscation program.

At a subsequent February 2, 2006 meeting at the Fairfield Inn in Fairfield, PA, the Society approved
spending of $200 for the dinner after the April 4 observance of Thaddeus Stevens’s birthday in
Lancaster and to pay for three plaques to be presented at that dinner.
